Angela Bachiller

Angela Bachiller, a 30-year-old woman with Down syndrome.
A wonderful young woman, Bachilleris the first person with Down syndrome to be elected to the position of councillor in Valladolid city in July 2013.
Bachillerworked for three years as an administrative assistant for Social Welfare and Family Department prior to her election, successfully winning the trust of the public. She has aspiring to provide opportunities for people with disabilities as supervisory staff.
Bachiller’s parents were supportive of her throughout her childhood, determined to raise Angela in a unique way, and encouraged her to play, participate in sports, go out to the cinema and restaurants. Her parents prioritized education and sent Angela to school when she was at the age of 1, and constantly stressed the key role education would play in her future. Hence, Bachiller has dedicated her authority to ensure that sufficient economic efforts are made to ensure that quality education for persons with disabilities is provided throughout Spain as part of the National Plan.
Angela refuses the idea of confing people with Down syndrome in a narrow category of success that focuses on the ability to overcome adversity rather than excel. She is a skilled and determined politician who has impressed both her party and the opposition Socialist Party. She has a range of hobbies, including Latin dance and playing the piano. She is an avid reader of romance books. She also loves to travel, starting with a love of school trips from a young age, and has traveled most of Europe.
Angela is a reminder to all of us, that there are no limits to the capabilities of individuals with Down syndrome. Angela Bachiller is a unique success story in the political field. She refuses to be treated differently or to change her views, which makes her an amazing political figure and a role model for people with Down syndrome and other genetic conditions around the world.
