The world celebrates the International Day of persons with disabilities every year on 3/12, by a decision of the United Nations General Assembly (No. 3/47).
The Assembly appealed to all its member states to celebrate this day with the aim of increasing the integration of persons with disabilities in their societies.
Since the beginning of the United Nations, it has advocated the issue of inherent human dignity, and the resulting equality and rights for all human beings without exception, and considered it a basis for freedom, as well as for justice, in addition to world peace.
The International Day of the Disabled is not only a celebration in the midst of speeches, television programs, and so on, but a day for ordinary people as well, to think, even a little, about the disabled and try to help each one according to their capabilities and energy.
Objectives of the International Day of the Disabled:
The United Nations has set specific and clear goals for this day, which are:
1-The necessity of effective, full and uncompromised participation of the disabled in their society, as well as in development plans and programs, and this is done through the global action program that should be implemented by the Ministry of Health related to the disabled.
2- Comprehensive awareness of the health rights of the disabled.
3. Educating the disabled and their families about all matters and services that are granted to them free of charge, in order to facilitate their life.
4. Awareness and consolidation of the concept of equal opportunities between healthy people and the disabled, regardless of their different needs, or their places of residence.
5. Urging that the disabled be involved in all development programs in his community.
People concerned about the International Day of the Disabled:
-All persons with disabilities, regardless of their age or type of disability, and even its degree.
– People with disabilities and their families.
-The community that surrounds them.
– All those who work in the educational health field.
-All non-governmental institutions, in addition to social institutions.
-The media.
– Categories of society as a whole.
World Down Syndrome Day
In December 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted (resolution 66/149), which states:
Declaring March 21 as World Down Syndrome Day, to be celebrated annually starting from 2012.
The General Assembly called on all Member States, relevant organizations of the United Nations system, other international organizations and civil society, including non-governmental organizations and the private sector, to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day in an appropriate manner to raise public awareness of Down syndrome.

In 2020, the world had to provide new ways for us to communicate with each other .. and this may be one of the positive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic (Corona Virus), and this is intended to celebrate the world’s Down Syndrome Day this year. The focus was on improving the means of communication to ensure that All people with Down syndrome are able to communicate and participate on an equal basis with others.
Because with good communication we can:
– Exchange ideas, experiences and knowledge
-Empowering each other to advocate for equal rights for people with Down syndrome
– Urging key stakeholders to bring about positive change.
