Pablo Pineda is the first person in Europe with Down syndrome to have a university degree and works as a teacher.
Pablo Pineda who lives in Spain and is 42 years old, is the first person in Europe with Down syndrome to have a university degree.
That was in 2004 and he has been a teacher since 2009.
Pablo Pineda says about his job: “Families are still afraid that people with Down syndrome become teachers.. I am tired of being the perpetual student, the forever child.. Now it is my time to teach.”
Pablo Pineda has also acted in a movie about his life. The movie is called “Me Too”.
Pablo Pineda does not want to continue working as an actor. “I worked on this film for one reason only: to empower other people with Down syndrome and, of course, to change awareness in the community regarding Down syndrome, to provide a different perspective from us,” he says.
He believes that people with Down syndrome can achieve everything if they want to.
He says: My message to parents, teachers and society is: Here is someone who can learn. Not everyone with Down syndrome can study, but they can learn. And individual limits in this respect should not be set by society but by the person himself. I got to where I am today because I wanted to get there.”
