** The meaning of Down syndrome :
The word “syndrome” means a group of symptoms or physical signs that appear in more than one child repeatedly and has a specific cause, and the word Down is a genetic condition (not a genetic disease transmitted through generations) in which a child (male or female) is born with 47 chromosomes And not 46. (Because there are three copies of chromosome No. 21, not just two like other humans), it may occur in all categories of people, regardless of race, gender, and social and economic status.
** The cause of the genetic disorder that causes Down syndrome :
Scientists did not provide specific reasons for the occurrence of this change in chromosomes, but they provided several reasons that increase the risk of its occurrence, the most important of which are:
- Pregnancy over the age of 35: The older the woman, the greater the risk of developing Down syndrome in the fetus.
- If the father’s age is 40 years or more
- The birth of a child in the family with Down syndrome.
