Home-made Montessori tools

One of the Montessori activities, through which the child learns a lot of concepts. It consists of 10 pink wooden cubes, the smallest dimensions of which are 1 cm, and the rest of the cubes are graduated until they reach 10 cm. When you buy them, their high price will surprise you, which may exceed 500 L.E.

(The activity is suitable for children from one and a half to three years old). Through the activity, the child should arrange the cubes on top of each other starting from the largest to the smallest, to realize the difference between the sizes and to link during that between the visual sense by hand..

Alternative tools:

we give the child a set of refrigerator cans, on the basis that they are one shape with different sizes, and your child tries to arrange them inside some of them from the largest to the smallest, and match each lid with its box, as well as arranging them on top of each other while they are closed and make a tower of cans instead of the pink tower.

You can also use a set of pots or trays because they are made up of one shape and color but different sizes, .

You should avoid any sets made of breakable materials, especially expensive ones, or whose breaking could cause harm to the child.

Material box

Material Box is a game that teaches the child that matter is neither created nor destroyed.

Or, in simpler terms, the child knows that when things disappear away from their eyes, they are still there.

As it happens when you hide your face with a hinder and then come out.

It is a game that consists of a small wooden box open from the top with a circular hole, and a small ball thrown from the box opening, to slide again from the bottom of the box, and the child repeats the process, until he notices that the disappearance of the ball does not mean that it is lost, but that it is located somewhere.

This activity is suitable for your child from the first year, and even earlier.

You can use a small ball with a plastic box or even a cardboard box such as a tissue box, make a hole in it and let your child discover it.

3 – Interactive board

It is a cartoon or wooden panel hung on the wall and on which various shapes are installed: a circle, a triangle, a rectangle, a square, a cone, or strips that vary in size, large and then small and then smaller, or identical shapes that differ in colors to match them together..

There are also activities other than Montessori that can be attached to the board, such as hanging a lock and its key, different buttons with their openings to train the child, light pistons that you don’t need, nuts with bolts, as well as empty shampoo bottles, cut their lids and fix them all on a wooden board or even on a strong carton. Let your child practice his hobbies and follow his passion.

There are many materials and tools that we dispose of; yet, they can be used as educational tools for our children.
