David was born with Down syndrome and is an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities and a leader at the local, national and international levels.
David has always dreamed of achieving great things. When he was eight years old, he started swimming in the Special Olympics and dreamed of winning competitive races. In his teenage years, his dreams grew beyond sports, he aspired to get a job and find ways to change society’s view of people with intellectual disabilities. David has made his dreams come true and along the way has inspired others to achieve their dreams, giving speeches to audiences around the world and starting work as a writer at Booz Allen Hamilton. He is currently the Community Relations Coordinator at SourceAmerica.
David spoke to audiences and various media outlets to help spread the message of inclusion and dignity. David has served on Capitol Hill’s Social Security Methods and Means Subcommittee and with the National Down Syndrome Society. He is an active participant in research and represents advocate for the National Down Syndrome Institutes of Health Consortium.
David plays football, basketball, softball and swimming; in addition to winning many medals over the years, David has traveled both domestically and internationally. In 2000, he was elected to represent Virginia at the first World Athletic Conference in the Netherlands, and in 2010 he held the same role at the World Athletic Conference in Morocco.

David serves on several boards and collaborates with various advocacy groups. He is currently working on a project similar to Al-Folk Project for Down syndrome in Virginia. He was the first to be elected to serve in the National Down Syndrome Society, and is one of the ambassadors for the National Down Syndrome Society. David serves as a global messenger for the Special Olympics. He served as a member of the Virginia Special Olympics Board of Directors, where he succeeded in submitting a proposal to appoint a person with a disability to the work team.
