Bishop Paula, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Folk Charitable Foundation, inaugurated today, Saturday, the administrative headquarters of the Foundation in Tanta, Gharbia Governorate, coinciding with the celebration of the International Day of Down Syndrome, which is celebrated tomorrow, Sunday, March 21, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is noteworthy that Al-Folk Charitable Foundation was established and notarized under No. 2194 on December 6, 2020, with the aim of managing Al-Folk project – under construction – which is the first global model project in Egypt and the Middle East to serve the heroes of Down Syndrome, by providing all rehabilitation and integrated care programs, and achieving their natural integration with society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening was attended by a group of executive leaderships in Gharbia Governorate, members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, and public figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inauguration program included a visit to Al-Folk project, located Hessat Akwah in Gharbia Governorate and viewing the levels of the project completion. More than 90% of the first phase of the project and 20% of the second phase have been completed; and work is ongoing rapidly and regularly to open the project to the beneficiaries of its pioneering services before the end of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the margins of the opening, Bishop Paula said that this project is a global project by all standards, and that it was designed and implemented with the highest international standards in order that every Egyptian be proud of it, stressing that the Coptic Church gifts this project to the community as a whole, and that its services will be available 100% free of charge and to all Egyptians without discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bishop Paula explained that this project is the summary of the study of pioneering international experiences in this field, and that a group has been sent for training in Italy to manage such projects, stressing that the implementation processes are going with great strength for nearly two years. The idea of the project came up in 2018 and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s speech about people with special needs on December 24, 2018 during the celebration of People with Special needs\u2019 day was the spark for launching this project and starting its implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bishop Paula added that Al-Folk project – which is being constructed and equipped – provides an integrated set of services for people with special mental abilities, including education, training, talent development, crafts teaching, production and sports activities, aiming at integrating them into society and improving their coexistence with the surrounding environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This huge project is being established on a total area of 6332 m2<\/sup> and includes two buildings; The first building covers an area of 1473 m2<\/sup> and takes the form of a “ship” or “Al-Folk”, and the second building covers an area of 1050 m2<\/sup> and is attached to the first building, in addition to green spaces, greenhouses, playgrounds, recreational areas, and places for crafts and productive activities for the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Al-Folk buildings include medical clinics, gymnasiums, advanced educational classes, a hotel living room for the beneficiaries, a prayer room, a library, a theater for artistic performances, rooms for music and arts, and rooms for crafts that people with special mental abilities will learn, including carpentry, cardboard, knitting and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bishop Paula continued: \u201cAl-Folk project serves 5 main categories, including in the first phase; 150 persons with special mental abilities over the age of 18 years residing in an integrated hotel stay in the project to receive rehabilitation, training and integrated treatment, and 150 others aged between 4-18 years frequenting the project to receive various services. In addition to the families of our sons with special mental capabilities who will be trained and qualified to deal perfectly with their sons and to maximize the results of the rehabilitation, training and education their sons will receive in the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al-Folk Charitable Foundation added, \u201cThe list of beneficiary categories includes the trainees who wish to work or volunteer in other similar projects; they are trained in an integrated manner and according to an advanced scientific approach in the rehabilitation institute located within the project. The last category is the residents of Hessat Akwah village in which the project is located, as the project provides direct and indirect job opportunities for them together with some medical services that are commensurate with the nature of the project. Moreover, the presence of a project with these specifications in the village will enhance the quality of the infrastructure services provided to the residents of such region\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The project managers called on the various executive bodies to support this project by implementing the infrastructure and facilities requirements in the Hessat Akwah village in which this global project is located.
